In the yoga sutra Patanjali describes the four locks:

His advice is useful to all including people not studying yoga.

He says to be happy for people doing well.

You are supposed to ignore the wicked.

All of this is keep from disturbing your chit (mind stuff)

Strangely my Dante book went missing so I looked up Dante on Digital Dante Columbia Univ, which was nicely updated current commentary.

Canto 13 covers Envy

Which is described as a declasse vice compared to pride.

Columbia's Digital Dante is pretty cool.

And Patanjali's four locks pretty useful advice.

It is best to read the whole text.

There are four types of people: the happy people (sukha), unhappy people (duhka), virtuous (punya) and wicked ( apunya).  There are four keys to unlock them:

When I read this ten years ago, I recall the influence it had on me and my envy of the rich declined.

Ignoring the wicked is kind of like "disengaging a borderline/ narcississtic person" the lock is broken by "stopping to walk on eggshells"
