John Climacus of the Ladder I was surprised by my interest in a 7th century Greek Monk! I ended up reading his book to the end something that I don’t always do. But I was intrigued by the claim that he was the most studied in Eastern Christendom after the Bible. But these early Greek Hesychist (stillness experts) are similar to the current mindfulness gurus. As “light mystics” the word theology means to them “the direct experience of God” He is popular in Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Russia apparently.
