Poem:

Enlightenment is a complete package deal it does not consist of a few things but is the confluence of many things: it is not just what you eat or the mantras you keep or the position you take or how you relate. It is really all those things in a perfect mix. In fact I don’t like the word perfect off perfect is ok. I think the mix can include teachings. You shouldn’t be heavily eating. It helps to get up early in the morning. You should take seriously your Guru’s warnings. You should focus on your third eye in your head. You should shutdown your attachments and remove all your clutter. You can look at the moon and the sun as possible indicators. It is a strange world to be in where everything is useless but poetry. This may seem a upside-down poem. I am trying to meditate also even when not alone. The inner force in some sense is not your own it seems you are just connecting. It is hard to claim power when you are only a adjunct professor. Perhaps you can make no claim at all. DS Poem August 7, 2018

Yes. The English paraphrase on the page (“If you are not handsome then be Jacob”) captures the basic idea, but some of the richness of Rumi’s Persian is hidden. The crucial verse is: تو که یوسف نیستی
