Poem:

A rainy morning provides an opportunity to sit longer so is Golden. Rain which is misty can be mystic. It can deepen your concentration. You can listen to the droplets. To move your practice from beginner to advanced really adds a lot of class. There is work that you can do alone in your head. It may fit into the image of the accomplished yogi. You can still live in the West and give it a try. You can procrastinate all the things you want to do in the world and bring meditation to the forefront to be done first. It might give you a paler skin color and lessen inflammation. You can go out for sunshine later. If your meditation is dry you just have a cup of tea and retry. That’s why Zen buddhist drink so much green tea. You can also read scripture during the breaks. Before an all day meditation retreat it is best not to eat. A one day retreat is sublime and reflects the model that one day represents your whole life. A ten day retreat is too long and commercial and is torture and only feeds the ego and causes people to write books about it. The one day can fit into a weekend and not be disruptive. Yes. The English paraphrase on the page (“If you are not handsome then be Jacob”) captures the basic idea, but some of the richness of Rumi’s Persian is hidden. The crucial verse is: تو که یوسف نیستی
