Poem:

Instead of beginning a journey of a thousand miles with one step, I say take a journey of a thousand miles all the way to the end every day and stop just taking one step. You can’t just be starting things all the time and procrastinating the finish until tomorrow. When you meditate you are not preparing for your day, rather you are passing into the dead zone and going all the way to heaven while leaving earth behind for the animals and you will be going for a long time. It is not just a game. It does not help you to become a something it makes you into nothing. The dark night of meditation is your day. You are supposed to be advancing not dabbling. More of the same is good for your brain. “Winter is good” for all things deeper. During the summer you were more lightweight and physical. Maybe you should get more serious. Being completely dead and become beautiful. DS Poem November 14, 2018

Yes. The English paraphrase on the page (“If you are not handsome then be Jacob”) captures the basic idea, but some of the richness of Rumi’s Persian is hidden. The crucial verse is: تو که یوسف نیستی
