Going up to the Third Eye is not just arbitrary. It is more like necessary as are Niffari translated by Arberry. You can develop a preference for Sulami over Salami. Why Man was born with the curtains down in his head? It is hard to know why? But you have to be a purist to reopen the door. So you just have to re-try. Instead of going to work you can spend your morning looking for stars. Your head could look like Van Gogh. If you develop some inner glow it might start to show. It is best if you do not know. It could be like a mobius reality. You could go into annihilation then try to forget about it. The annihilation of ego could be your principal exercise. Like a yoga for the brain.
