For Arturia KeyLab → MacBook → studio monitors, the best and correct cable is NOT an adapter, but a 3.5 mm → dual ¼-inch breakout cable. This sends proper left and right stereo channels to each monitor.

✅ Best cable type (this is what studios use)

How it connects

Arturia KeyLab → USB → MacBook → headphone jack → breakout cable → monitors

Cable ends:

  • Single small plug (3.5 mm) → MacBook headphone output

  • Two large plugs (¼-inch) → Left and Right monitor inputs

Each monitor gets its own plug.

Why this is better than using adapters

Breakout cable advantages:

  • ✅ Proper stereo separation (left/right speakers correct)

  • ✅ Stronger, cleaner signal

  • ✅ Less noise and hum

  • ✅ No fragile adapter chain

  • ✅ Professional standard for laptops → monitors

Adapters alone can cause:

  • weaker signal

  • mono sound

  • imbalance or phase problems

Example with Yamaha MSP3A or Mackie monitors

Each monitor has:

  • ¼-inch input ✔

  • sometimes RCA input ✔

So this cable plugs straight in.

Even better long-term upgrade (optional)

For best sound quality later, use:

MacBook → USB audio interface → monitors

Example interfaces:

  • Focusrite Scarlett Solo

  • Arturia MiniFuse

  • Presonus AudioBox

This gives:

  • louder signal

  • cleaner sound

  • volume knob control

  • no headphone-jack noise

Simple recommendation for you now

Buy:

Hosa CMP-153 or CMP-159, 6–10 ft length

Cost: $10–$15

If you tell me whether you’ll use one monitor or two, I’ll show the exact hookup diagram.
