Poem:

The way to get rid of outer attachments is to establish attachments in the inside of your head. If you have long staying power just inside, the outer attachments will subside. They become very pale by comparison. The outer world is well known to be disagreeable. This may seem very ascetic but is in fact very practical. In his concluding lecture, William James says: “let us be saints then, if we can..” He concludes that being a saint is better suited to modern society than being an aggressive tribal leader. The late Victorian era had better scholars. They read more books, now people watch TV.
